The premise sounds like a classic thriller: you're trapped in a cursed hotel where a man with sick ambitions has released a toxic gas to “cleanse” society of those he considers unworthy, and the only way out is finding the antidote in time. From the very first second the door closes behind you, you're thrown straight into the heart of the problem, into a darkness that cuts off any remaining comfort.
The narrative execution is impeccable and perfectly aligned with everything you find in the rooms. This isn't a story handed to you on sheets of paper left on a table; you live it physically. The antagonist's sick mind is morbidly reflected in every corner, from human remains scattered with methodical care to the macabre evidence you have to handle in order to survive. You feel your character threatened by the clock, and not only that, at every step.
This is Mysterium's real ace up their sleeve: the atmosphere is an honest 9.5! The room is dark, oppressive, and sends cold shivers down your spine, but without cheap jump scares meant only to dump adrenaline on you mechanically. The ambient music and the sounds synced with every action create fantastic cinematic suspense.
The decor is crafted with great attention to detail: blood, corpses, eerie photographs, and visceral props that almost make you avoid touching anything out of disgust or fear, which, for a horror room, is the highest compliment possible. A small subjective minus would be a mannequin in a closet that could have looked a bit more terrifying, but otherwise the immersion was total.
Hotel Inferno is an excellent choice both for horror veterans and for more easily frightened players who want a truly sinister atmosphere without being terrorized. We recommend a team of explorers ready to face the darkness and think clearly under the pressure of toxic gas. A must-play room, especially around Halloween!
