The story is, at least in the first part of the game, almost non-existent. Everything revolves around the classic premise: you wake up in a slaughterhouse, you don't know how you got there, and you have to escape.
It wouldn't be a problem that the narrative thread is thin at first, since not every room has to start from a strength. We would have expected, however, for the excitement to build along the way, through puzzles that reveal details about the scenario. Unfortunately, that takes a long time to appear, leaving you with the feeling that you're mechanically solving puzzles with little logical explanation or connection between them. A dull sequence.
Most of the puzzles in this room have frustrating logic. We constantly felt like we were solving riddles from some obscure website. The challenge comes more from the need to hunt for digits written almost at random to unlock old padlocks. Frustrating tasks that offer no satisfaction at the end (perhaps also because we stumbled onto some solutions by luck). We used quite a few hints to progress, and the feeling after each one was: "ah… ok… yeah, there was no way we'd have figured that out".
We've played other lock-based rooms before, but one way to avoid frustration would be to vary them (different number of digits, letters instead of digits, keys of different sizes, etc.). Here, instead, we had to try each lock one by one with the same combination we found to see if something opened. Not exactly fun against the clock.
The decor is dirty and unmaintained, giving a sense of an abandoned space, but not in the artistic sense of the theme. The second half of the experience brings a considerable plus, with a phase of the game where the horror is well executed and gives you exactly the thrills you expect. Still, cohesion between elements is missing here too. The spaces are large but relatively empty, leaving you with the impression of an unfinished room. The lack of maintenance negatively impacts the overall experience.
Much appreciation, however, for the staff, who were very friendly and answered all our questions at the end.
