What we really liked from the start was how we were introduced to the story. We then also liked the story itself, which is sketched as if from another universe, at the intersection between space, mystery and incantations, where time seems to dilate differently.
Although the decor here is not extraordinarily rich or loaded, the chosen elements are aligned with the theme of 'time otherwise'. The objects in the room manage to create that oppressive and mysterious atmosphere, giving you the feeling that you've stumbled into the middle of a séance.
Captive Outside Reality truly excels at puzzles. Not necessarily through state-of-the-art automation, but through how it puts your mind to work in totally different directions. Even though some mechanisms seem a bit 'lost in time', this didn't bother us at all. On the contrary, although they're older, they have a level of complexity that we loved.
For beginner teams, the room might be quite challenging and bring some headaches. However, for experienced players it will be a delight, especially since the story delivers at one point a wow factor that you don't anticipate!
Even though at times we felt that more decorative objects could be used or that some elements could be exploited more, overall we were caught in the narrative thread. A small minus point would be the way hints are transmitted; we felt that a more automated option, more organically integrated into the room's decor, would have completed the immersive experience much better.
