We have one small downside here, but we own it: we weren't told the story at the beginning. We literally rushed in and completely forgot to ask, and the Game Master omitted to brief us on the context.
So we improvised along the way. We figured it out ourselves by connecting the clues—we had to find some kind of beauty or youth elixir and do some... black magic. We did feel the lack of that context that explains the intrigue and why you're in that decor, but in the end it was fun to discover on our own what we'd gotten ourselves into.
When it comes to puzzles, brace yourself: 99% locks, digits and chains! But, completely unexpectedly, we didn't find it a problem at all. The gameplay is linear; each solved puzzle gave you a logical hint for the next, building towards a cumulative puzzle at the end. The difficulty I'd say is medium-hard and comes from having to keep your eyes peeled (pay close attention around hats!) and from a certain ambiguity in the elements. There were no 'do not touch' stickers, so you could inspect everything—mega fun, but double-edged (there were also elements intentionally designed to mislead you and waste your time).
We also had a small hiccup with a mechanism that didn't want to trigger manually, where we lost some time.
The decor is very inventive! Even though it's an almost fully manual room, it doesn't give you that old and dusty feeling at all. It's a large room, very well maintained, with a medieval atmosphere nicely supported by music and furniture. A big plus that they let you interact with the entire decor. It's silly to admit, but when the game got stuck we started looking in places that were clearly just decorative. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW RIGHT??
We mention again the location's lobby, decorated in a super cool story style, with space for photos and waiting, unlike the chaos you find in other places.
Black Magic is a solid choice for what it has to offer. Don't go in expecting high-tech automation—prepare for a classic hunt that will test your attention to detail and resistance to visual traps. It's perfect for an ad-hoc outing that leaves you in a good mood. We had fun!
