Unlike other games of this type, Pendulul Mortii places a huge emphasis on narrative, offering a very dark thriller experience that makes you do things you wouldn't want to do in real life. The puzzles are varied and, to our great satisfaction, have perfect logical sense within the tense context of the story. Although we also ran into a few moments where we got stuck even after hints, the level of creativity required kept us engaged until the last card. We found here one of the best integrations between a board game and an app—easy to use, intuitive, and without much complicated setup to prepare beforehand.
Verdict
It's impressive how a simple deck of cards can generate such a visceral reaction and such great satisfaction when the puzzle pieces blend perfectly with the narrative. We don't recommend it as a first investigation/escape room game—there are other more family-friendly options for that—but it's certainly a unique experience for enthusiasts!
